How to install the Computing Dictionary
The
"Komputika Leksikono" is a hypertext in HTML except that its
basic character set is ISO-8859-3 (Latina-3). At the time of this
writing it consists of 82+59 files, located in two directories.
You may copy to your local computer the directory
kompleks and its subdirectory kompleks/bildoj,
preserving the hierarchy and the name of the subdirectory. This
should enable you to read the lexicon offline. (You may prefer
to download 2 zipped files, kompleks.zip and bildoj.zip.)
The lexicone relies on two fonts in Latin-3, one proportional
and one monospaced. Depending on your platform and browser you
might try one of the following:
- under Unix
- one can
use Latina-3 en X (XMosaic, Netscape
...): ftp.stack.urc.tue.nl/pub/esperanto/fonts.dir/adobe3.tar.gz
ftp://ftp.stack.urc.tue.nl/pub/esperanto/fonts.dir/l3-tiparoj.tar.Z
The first package contains proportional fonts, the second,
monospaced.
- for Macintosh
- full type families
with the Esperanto letters encoded according to Latin-3 are
available online at http://www.crl.com:80/~pwhull/efonts.html;
besides, M. Urban has
made two screen fonts available via ELNA, Esperanto
League of North America, Box 1129, El Cerrito, CA 94530, 415
653--0998; - under MS-DOS
- one can use programs for
EGA, VGA: ftp://ftp.stack.urc.tue.nl/pub/esperanto/fonts.dir/iloj.zip.
and a browser like doslynx or minuet.
- under MS-Windows
- there are a few TrueType fonts,
available at ftp://ftp.stack.urc.tue.nl/pub/esperanto/fonts.dir/lat3pttf.zip.
Actually the Leksikono needs only those
characters of Latin-3 which are also available in Latin-1
plus the accented Esperanto letters; i.e. one can use
an ANSI character set modified so that it has the accented
Esperanto characters in the positions defined for them in
Latin-1. Such fonts can be downloaded from the FEL
WWW-site.
If you cannot install Latin-3 fonts, you may replace the
codes of the accented Esperanto characters according to the
"cx-convention":
16ume 8ume 10ume Substitutes
c6 306 198 Cx au ^C
e6 346 230 cx ^c
d8 330 216 Gx ^G
f8 370 248 gx ^g
a6 246 166 Hx ^H
b6 266 182 hx ^h
ac 254 172 Jx ^J
bc 274 188 jx ^j
de 336 222 Sx ^S
fe 376 254 sx ^s
dd 335 221 Ux ^U
fd 375 253 ux ^u
and use the standard ANSI character set.
Here is a test to check the
rendering of the accented letters on your screen.
